Meanwhile, in the land of fun...

Taking a break from the Swift Boat stuff, some folks still have a problem with calling countries like Iran and North Korea "evil", saying that it just inflames our enemies and fosters ill will.

But if you can't say things like this are evil, what does qualify?

In her summary trial, the teenage victim did not have any lawyer and efforts by her family to recruit a lawyer was to no avail. Ateqeh personally defended herself. She told the religious judge, Haji Rezaii, that he should punish the main perpetrators of moral corruption not the victims.

The judge personally pursued Ateqeh’s death sentence, beyond all normal procedures and finally gained the approval of the Supreme Court. After her execution Rezai said her punishment was not execution but he had her executed for her “sharp tongue”.
Strangely enough, no mention of any crime is stated in the story, but given the context, one has to think that it involved a crime of a sexual nature that was inflicted on the poor girl.

This would not be surprising, according to this very distrubing report from the Seattle Catholic, which details the kind of hell that a large part of the world's population has to endure in the name of Islam.

Another item which makes Islam reprehensible is the protection of men who
forcibly violate women. Under Islamic Law, a man cannot be convicted on a
charge of rape unless it happens in the presence of four male witnesses who
are willing to testify against him. In the course of my research, I have not been able to discover a single instance in which four men testified against one of their own. A Moslem man can freely rape women without worry of conviction, and this happens constantly in Islamic countries. To make matters worse, if a Moslem woman charges a man with rape and she is unable to find four male witnesses to testify against him, she is then charged with fornication. In countries under Islamic law, the punishment for fornication is death.

UPDATE: This young lady made the right choice...well, according to Islamic law anyways...

The victim faced a life as an outcast, ostracised and stigmatised by Indian society for being on the receiving end of a violent sexual crime. But if her assailant married her, the shame would be lifted in the eyes of the local Muslim community. On the order of the court in Berhampur, Ahammad Shaikh, 30, tied the knot with Sabina Khatoon, 18, inside the local prison where he is serving his sentence. Shaikh kidnapped Khatoon - the daughter of a daily wage labourer - from her village and raped her in a nearby forest in March this year.

My understanding is that the young girl was convicted for having had consensual sex. Her partner was given 100 lashes and released. (The respect given to women in sharia countries is just heart-warming, isn't it?)
